Après nous avoir offert un excellent EP l’an dernier (cf. new Noise #63), Tremours revient avec « Dark Glasses », premier extrait clippé d’un album qui sortira via Little Cloud Records plus tard dans l’année.

Lauren Andino et Glenn Fryatt ont monté Tremours à Los Angeles en 2021. Les jam sessions nocturnes entreprises pendant la période troublée du confinement ont donné naissance au projet s’appuyant sur la tension entre d’un côté les guitares brûmeuses et évanescentes d’Andino et l’urgence de la batterie palpitante de Fryatt.
Originaire de Caroline du Sud, Andino a rejoint le line-up de tournée de L.A. Witch et plus récemment de LSD and the Search for God en tant que à la seconde guitare et aux chœurs. Fryatt est né à Portsmouth, en Angleterre, et a tourné en tant que batteur pour des artistes tels que Cherubs, The Montrose Avenue et Ten Benson.
Avec Tremours les voit chacun explorer et tirer profit de ses propres élans créatif, puisant l’inspiration aux quatre vents, du shoegaze au jazz en passant par l’électronica, de lectures au simple émerveillement à la vue de l’océan. « La plupart de nos chansons parlent de solitude. Pas nécessairement de tristesse, mais plutôt du réconfort qu’on peut trouver dans la solitude », explique Andino, « c’est le moment où je me sens la plus calme ».
À la suite de leur EP Affectations paru chez Little Cloud Records en 2022, Tremours a entrepris deux grandes tournées aux Etats-Unis, de quoi attirer de nouveaux fans en Amérique du Nord mais aussi en Europe. Tremours a fait la tête d’affiche du Cherry Cult Fest au Canada en mars dernier et prépare son premier album pour la fin de l’année avec de nouvelles dates en perspective.
« Sur scène, on nous décrit comme intenses », déclare Fryatt. Ce à quoi Andino réplique « je n’ai pas d’autre choix que de lâcher prise et de faire confiance à Glenn quand nous jouons. C’est le seul groupe qui me l’impose, et je pense que notre dynamique scénique intense vient de là : concentration et totale confiance en l’autre ».

After their excellent Affectations EP released last year (and reviewed in our #63), Tremours are back with « Dark Glasses » and a video shot in the Mojave Desert :
Tremours formed in Los Angeles in 2021 by the duo of Lauren Andino and Glenn Fryatt. Late night jam sessions in the midst of lockdown uncertainty slowly transformed into TREMOURS creative partnership, driven by the tension between Andino’s hazy, drifting guitars and Fryatt’s urgent, pulsating drums.
South Carolina-born Andino plays with L.A. Witch and most recently LSD And The Search For God as a touring guitarist and vocalist. Fryatt hails from Portsmouth, England, and has toured as a drummer for artists such as Cherubs, The Montrose Avenue and Ten Benson.
Tremours sees them each newly harnessing and exploring their own creative impulses, inspired by everything from shoegaze to jazz to electronica to literature to looking out at the sea. “Most of our songs center around loneliness. Not necessarily sadness, but the comfort that you can find in being lonely,” says Andino. “It’s when I feel most calm.”
On the back of their 2022 Little Cloud Records EP Affectations, Tremours have undertaken two full US tours and garnered a following across North America and Europe. Tremours headlined Canada’s Cherry Cult Fest in March and have a full-length album and a host of tour dates slated for later in 2023.
“Live, we have been told that it can be intense,” Fryatt says. “I have no choice but to let go and trust Glenn when we are playing. This is the only band where I’ve had to do that, and I think that’s where our intense stage dynamic comes from — focusing and trusting one another,” Andino adds.
Tremours head out for the next tour on July 3rd (dates below). A debut full length album is also in the works and will be released on Little Cloud Records later this year.
